Dr Warren Hyer, Consultant Paediatrician,

In Summer 2007, Warren Hyer was one of the first doctors in the UK to participate in a job exchange as a consultant. He swapped jobs, houses, cars, and lives with Dr Lionel Lubitz.  (Lionel Lubitz is one of the most experienced and senior paediatricians at the Royal Childrens Hospital, and Austin Health, Melbourne). This enabled him to work as a consultant Paediatrician in the Department of General Paediatrics at the world acclaimed Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne.

He received  training and supervision in acute paediatrics, emergency paediatrics, inpatient paediatrics and regular outpatient work. He was exposed to the highest standards of general paediatrics probably anywhere in the world, enabling new practises and approaches to child health to be brought back to the UK.

This job exchange required recognition by the Australian authorities that Warren Hyer had equivalence in his consultant qualifications and experience to work in such a centre of excellence. He was exposed to some of the world's most highly regarded paediatricians at the Childrens Hospital. His clinical practice has been modified in the light of his experiences, and his surfing is much improved having spent much of his secondment on a beach.
